Shin’iwata is the dwarven capital of Shinjirakon colony, and was the first permanent dwarven settlement in the new world. It was named for the isle of Iwata, familial home of Kairo Kwan, who led the first voyage west. Shin’iwata is now a sprawling port town and the central hub for trade and governance in Shinjirakon.
With the influx of non-dwarven immigrants, the city has lately stratified by race, wealth, and status. The stringency of the dwarven bureaucracy has shut out most second-wave settlers from public service, and this divide is tacit in the tongue of common parlance, as the town has come to be informally known as Shiny Water to most non-dwarves.
